Risk Matrix Options

Before you begin to use an Incom Risk Management System you decide which type of risk matrix you wish to use.  A 9x9 matrix give you the most granularity and flexibility.  The 5x5 matrix is simpler and the most popular.  If you work in the health industry, you may find that a Triage style risk matrix may be more acceptable.  With the Triage style risk matrix, the numeric values (behind the qualitative labels) are reversed so that a rating of one is the highest risk and five the lowest.

The choice is yours, but it must be made before you enter any risks.  The rating setup is system wide and will affect all users of the system if you have a multi-user system.  A short description of each matrix follows.

Enterprise Risk Manager™ 5x5 Risk Matrix (or up to 9x9)

The default setup uses a 5 by 5 risk matrix (likelihood and consequence).

System administrators are able to adjust the levels at which risk ratings start, so you can have more or less cells that are high or extreme risks.

Enterprise Risk Manager™ Triage Style Risk Matrix

You may elect to use the Triage Style 5x5 or 9x9 matrix.  

The system is delivered with a predetermined mapping of likelihood and consequence to give risk ratings. If this mapping is not exactly to your liking, we give you the instructions to alter the mapping in the database so you can have more or less cells that are high or extreme risks.
